OUR LAMB, FARM & FARMING PRACTICES

Our 500-acre truffle and lamb farm is based on the outskirts of a beautiful, rural farming town called Tenterfield, located within the northern NSW region of New England.

Yes, all New England Lamb is completely pasture fed and finished, as well as completely free range. Our animals happiness and comfort is of the upmost importance to us. That's why all of our lambs are raised as nature intended — in happy, low-stress, free-range flocks with their mothers — feeding on the natural, mineral and nutrient rich grasses, plants, and flowers that fill our farm's tableland fields and moorlands.

Rearing lambs naturally this way is also brilliant for our farm's wider animal, insect, and horticultural ecosystem. Our natural and regenerative farming approach means that our farm is not only brimming with healthy and happy sheep and lambs, but also with wonderfully restorative wildlife whose habitats surround our farm.

We're proud to produce the highly coveted Australian White lamb that is naturally, ethically, and sustainably reared, as well as free from feedlotting, hormones, and antibiotics.

Sheep and lambs that are loved and cared for, pasture fed and pasture finished only. As nature intended.

Our sheep and lambs are 100% pasture-fed and roam freely on grassy pastures throughout their entire lives. They are never put in concentrated animal feedlot operations (CAFOs). They eat their natural, organic diet of native grasses, shrubs, and flowers. Examples of grasses they eat may include (but are not limited to) annuals, perennials, bluegrass, rye grass, and sorghum. Sheep and lambs that eat a diet similar to the above produce a superior, high quality finished product that’s a natural source of long chain Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. It's no secret that our pasture-fed, pasture-finished lamb meat, from the Australian White sheep breed, is extra tender and juicy, that's also unmatched in its delicious flavour. With a naturally great taste and naturally more health benefits, it’s a choice our Farmyard Family members can feel good about eating and serving their friends and families.

Typically, sheep and lambs that are grain fed start their lives on pasture, for a short time, but are later confined to feedlots where their diets include mainly grains. This is a cheaper and lower quality way of raising and feeding sheep and lambs. A grain-based diet primarily consists of processed grains like corn and soy. This causes animals to grow much quicker, which is why it’s often used in commercial production. This is something we NEVER do, and REFUSE to do. We believe in the power, care, and results of Mother Nature - pasture-fed, pasture-finished meat, as would occur naturally.

Ah... that’s a very good question! The easiest way to explain this is that animals are no different to humans with this, really, with some variability in weight being completely natural and normal IF they are NOT factory or intensively farmed.

We only produce lamb that is completely free-range and pasture fed & finished, that's also without all of the unnatural nasties, antibiotics, and hormones (often used for unnatural growth promotion).

Ultimately, this means our animals can choose what they want to eat from our safe, natural grassy and flowery pastures and how much of it they want to eat; instead of being forced to eat as much as possible and artificially pumped up with unnatural growth promotion hormones. Furthermore, our animals are totally free to roam our 500-acre tableland farm in their small, and very happy, low-stress flocks so they also choose how much exercise they feel they need to do. And it is often a decent amount, from jumping and galloping around together in play, all the way to strolling peacefully together from sunrise to sunset. All of this equates to healthier, happier, and unstressed lambs enjoying a high quality of life together, side-by-side with their mothers and extended flock family. This is why, naturally, some animals are taller, shorter, more lean or less lean - creating variables in the animals just like us humans. This results in slight varying weights in the cuts you receive, but we ALWAYS ensure these variances are only slight so you're still receiving great value and second-to-none taste for your hard earned money.

This is because all of our sheep and lambs are free to roam in our natural New England pastures, and eat what nature intended. It’s also because our animals aren’t intensively farmed in factories or feedlots and grow much slower (that being the natural growth rate) than intensively farmed animals. Subsequently, our sheep and lambs have never been given any hormones, antibiotics or grains, which all alter the appearance, taste and overall quality of the meat. Know and trust that when you’re eating New England Lamb, you’re eating premium meat without the unnatural nasties and additives, raised healthily and happily as nature intended.

This extraordinary breed was specifically bred to thrive in Australia’s unique climate, and born through years of careful breeding, stringent selection criteria, and the latest technology and techniques. All of our New England Lambs are reared on our family farm and trace back to originating Australian White genetics.

The Australian White breed combines White Dorper, Van Rooy,
Poll Dorset, and Texel genetics – a combination backed by many years of research and refinement to deliver lambs purely for their fine, tender meat.

The beauty of a single breed, created for the sole intention of delivering the highest quality lamb meat, means no more "mixed-bag" produce. New England Lamb is, and will always be, solely Australian White Lamb. It is simply the best.
